In the gallery today painting it white - no work happening as yet - meeting tomorrow at 6pm - trusting that the space will be cleared out and more userfriendly - gotta say I love the red couch and perspex coffee table.
About ten "gay guys" came to see the show - Mardi gras guides in hand - but all were disappointed by the "lack of artwork" - it was a case of having to explain that the show is "a work in process" (Joe's words) but I felt that I had to make excuses for it. Richard was quite the professional "If you wanna see Tom of Finland art then head on up to the Colombian".
I was chatting to my Mum online tonight about the show and she made a cool comment which was "Everybody uses the Mardi Gras for their own agenda". I think she meant that there is no such thing as a unified "gay community" and that the queens who came along to check out the art show today are probably the types who like to see themselves as part of a common (male) community - quite unlike the lone wolves in seach of a tribe.
Going in tomorrow evening with a few bits and pieces - the new images I've been working on and some text pieces. Suddenly feel as if I need to produce some big band work to impress the masses on Saturday night. Will dragging it up suffice? Need to keep focus and realise that this show is something different. Like Christopher said "The work is secondary" - meaning the "work" is of a different nature.
I wanna meet Sandra Bernhard and I want her to cum to the show. Let's put that out there. Who else do we want?
PS Polly's is back at the Stonewall Sunday nights |
